This week, we are coming back to our ESG Development Heatmap updates, this time focused on the Mexican Metals & Mining sector in Mexico. We only focused on (1) companies listed in the Mexican stock exchanges and (2) publicly disclosed materials.
Metals & Mining
Source: Publicly available company materials.
What can we see in this heatmap?
There was little change vs. last year in this sector. Having said that, the sector still ranks as one of the most advanced sectors in the Mexican market both in terms of ESG strategy development and ESG communication since 3 of the 5 companies have relatively robust publicly disclosed strategies, and the other two have a good effort in ESG communication.
Notably, Grupo México became the first company in the sector to publish KPIs for all its material topics, as well as to set goals for each of those indicators. Additionally, both Grupo México and Peñoles updated their materiality analyses this year. Peñoles also published KPIs for all its material topics (even though it has not set goals for those indicators yet) and officially aligned with TCFD reporting.
I hope you found this interesting. As usual, if there is anything we can help you with, or if there is an ESG topic you would like to know more about, please let us know.
Best,
