This week, we are coming back to our ESG Development Heatmap updates, this time focused on the Mexican the Commercial Services Supplies and Energy sectors in Mexico. We only focused on (1) companies listed in the Mexican stock exchanges and (2) publicly disclosed materials.

What can we read from these heatmaps?
Overall, there was little improvement in both sectors. Since they both are so small, it is difficult to envision something more extreme without any of the laggard companies really delving into developing a formal sustainability strategy.
Commercial Services Supplies
Very slight improvement was seen this year in this sector:
a) PASA became a signatory of the UN Global Compact.
b) PASA mapped its contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Energy
a) Vista Oil (now Vista Energy) updated its materiality analysis and published some KPIs for some of its material topics (together with KPI goals). It also started to align its reporting with TCFD’s framework and for the first time externally verified its report.
b) Cox is still relatively new to defining an ESG strategy.

Esta semana, volvemos a nuestras actualizaciones de los ESG Development Heatmaps, esta vez enfocándonos en los sectores de Servicios y Suministros Comerciales y Energía. Sólo incluimos (1) a las empresas que cotizan en las bolsas mexicanas de valores y (2) los materiales divulgados públicamente por dichas empresas.

¿Qué podemos ver en estos heatmaps?
En general, hubo pocas mejoras. Dado que ambos sectores son tan pequeños, es difícil esperar algo más extremo sin que alguna de las empresas rezagadas decida realmente desarrollar una estrategia formal de sostenibilidad.
Servicios y Suministros Comerciales
Este año hubo una ligera mejora en el sector:
a) PASA se convirtió en signatario del Pacto Mundial de la ONU.
b) PASA mapeó sus contribuciones a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODSs) de la ONU.
Energía
a) Vista Oil (ahora Vista Energy) actualizó su análisis de materialidad y publicó KPIs para algunos de sus temas materiales (junto con objetivos para los KPIs). También comenzó a alinear sus informes con el marco de TCFD y, por primera vez, verificó externamente su informe.
b) Cox todavía es relativamente nuevo en la definición de una estrategia ESG.
